IR-1/CR-1 (Spouse Visa for U.S. Citizens)

What is this visa?

This visa is for foreign spouses of U.S. citizens, allowing them to enter the country and become permanent residents

  • Example situations:

    A U.S. citizen marries someone from another country and applies for a spouse visa so they can live and work in the U.S.

  • Duration:

    Permanent resident status (Green Card) granted upon arrival

  • Estimated processing time:

    • Regular processing: 12–18 months
    • Processing may take longer if additional verification is required

If the marriage is less than 2 years old, a CR-1 visa will be issued, meaning “conditional” status (a follow-up after 2 years to confirm the marriage for permanent status)

K-1 (Fiancé/Fiancée Visa for U.S. Citizens)

What is this visa?

This visa allows U.S. citizens to invite their fiancé/fiancée to enter the U.S. to marry. After marriage, the spouse can apply for a Green Card

  • Example situations:

    A fiancé/fiancée from another country enters the U.S. on a K-1 visa to marry a U.S. citizen

  • Duration:

    After marriage, the spouse can apply for permanent resident status (Green Card)

  • Estimated processing time:

    • Regular processing: 6–9 months
    • After marriage, applying for a Green Card: an additional 8–12 months

The couple must marry within 90 days of entering the U.S. on the K-1 visa.

What is this visa?

This visa is for children (under 21) of U.S. citizens who are unmarried and wish to reunite with their parents in the U.S.

What is this visa?

These visas allow spouses and children (under 21) of U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders) to reunite with their family in the U.S.

    • F-2B: 5–10 years due to the long waiting list for adult children because of visa quotas

This visa is for children of U.S. citizens, including children who have been adopted by U.S. citizens.
